Kasia Truszkowska

From Oxford to Global Teacher Training

Kasia, founder of Oxford Academy of English Ltd, is an expert in academic writing, critical thinking, and teacher training with nearly a decade of experience in UK higher education. She holds a BA in Applied Linguistics, an MA in TESOL, a BSc in Economics, along with CELTA and DELTA certifications. She has worked with institutions such as the University of Surrey, Kingston University, and Northumbria University while also leading teacher training workshops at Sheffield University and TESOL Arabia.

When I arrived in Oxford in 2014 to complete my CELTA qualification, I had already spent years teaching English, held a BA in Applied Linguistics, an MA in TESOL, and was fully committed to my career. Yet, nothing could have prepared me for how transformative the experience would be.

CELTA was different. It wasn’t just about theory; it was hands-on, immersive, and pushed me to refine every aspect of my teaching. It was here that I realized that effective education isn’t about how much you know—it’s about how well you can guide others to learn.

Inspired by this experience, I decided to stay in Oxford, working with students from around the world and embracing the challenge of teaching in one of the most prestigious educational cities. Over time, my focus shifted from General English to English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and IELTS, and soon, I found myself designing entire university preparation programs for international students.

By 2022,my career took an exciting turn. I was invited to train university lecturers at Northumbria University London—a moment that made me realize how much I enjoyed helping teachers improve their methods. This led me to deliver workshops at BALEAP in Sheffield and TESOL Arabia in Dubai, where I shared insights into lesson design, critical thinking, and academic writing.

Seeing the impact of these training sessions, I knew it was time to build something bigger. That’s when I founded Oxford Academy of English—a space where I could help educators and students develop essential academic skills, fromresearch writing to AI-powered learning strategies.

Lately, my work has been deeply focused on AI in Academic Writing— exploring how teachers can use AI to enhance students’ writing and thinking processes. This is why I’m thrilled to be delivering a three-hour masterclass on AI in Academic Writing at TESOL Arabia 2025 on April 18, followed by a special workshop on AI tools for teaching on April19.

But that’s not all! After TESOL Arabia, I’ll schedule private meetings and webinars with people who reached Crossover Education to discuss everything —from my journey, my teaching philosophy, and the future workshops for Chinese English Teachers. Stay tuned on LinkedIn for more information!
